Interesting subject: "Mahler's most perfect symphonies". Dave chose 1,
5, 6, 7, 9. I would choose: 1, 4, 5, although these aren't necessarily
my favorite Mahler symphonies.
One of my very favorite Mahler pieces is the last movement of the sixth.
I think this piece practically stands on its own, without the other
movements. I think some of Mahler's best music is not his best symphonies.
