Some years ago MTT/SFSO played Schuman's 8th.  I got a tape from a friend.
It was a wonderful performance.  I wrote the conductor and to my surprise,
got a reply, something to the effect that he found great value in the music
and appreciated the letter.

I believe that with MTT's background and abilities, he has a real feel for
American music.  He now how the maturity to present those works with a depth
of understanding that would shead new light on them.

Is there a market out there?  I believe there is, a small one, but a devoted
following.  I doubt a set of Schuman's Symphonies would sell more than 2,000
copies and that would not even come close to covering engineering costs, let
alone the union and conductor's fees.
