James Zehm asks:

>I don't know the composer Koechlin you are talking about. Is it a German
>spelled Dimitre Cuclin?

Nope, he's French, Charles Koechlin. Born in 1867, died in 1950, he was
regarded primarily as a pedagogue until quite recently. His large Jungle
Book has had a fine recording by David Zinman.

Koechlin was a notable eccentric who, although a married man, harbored a
passion for various movie stars. He wrote many songs as well as a movie
scenario for the actress Lillian Harvey and himself. The long-suffering
Mme Koechlin was pressed into service to take the movie scenario to Ms
Harvey who, understandably, was unimpressed. Hurt that his devotion was
spurned, Koechlin rededicated all the songs to Ginger Rogers.

Notwithstanding his peculiarities, he is a composer worth investigating.
In addition to the compositions mentioned, Leif Segerstam has recorded some
of his music on Cybelia, including Le Buisson Ardent - a fairly lengthy
symphonic work.
