"Irrefutably bad tunes" in the 1812? This overture features the quite
stirring "Marseillaise" and a moving chorale treatment of the Russian
Orthodox litany "Lord, Preserve thy People!" Even the czarist him has
an impressive pomp of sorts.  Nothing to sneer at.
