Not putting too fine a point on mediocrity, Roger Hecht writes:

Actually, Hruska was responding to the American Bar Association's rating
of Haynsworth or Carswell (two dreadful Supreme Court nominations made by
Nixon) as "mediocre and unfit for service on the court." Hruska's remark
was the high point of his Senate service.
