Ed Zubrow asks for recommendations on several pieces of CM's standard
repertoire. Here are my tips:
BEETHOVEN's Piano Sonatas: Chilean Pianist Alfredo Perl recorded the
whole cycle of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas for the Arte Nova label, but if
you want "the best", you should try the 2 CD set "The Great Piano Sonatas"
(Moonlight, Appassionata, Pathetique, Les Adieux, Waldstein and Pastorale),
Arte Nova 74321 39106 2. Great performances for a fantastic price.
BACH's Brandenburg Concertos: Try Raymond Leppard with the English
Chamber Orchestra - 2 CDs from Philips SOLO Series (442 386-2 and 442
387-2). Bach's two violin concertos and the Concerto for Harpsichord,
Violin, Flute and Strings are coupled. Also a great bargain.
Wilson Pereira.
