Deryk Barker replies Jeff Dunn:
>I have a sequence of 5 motives (attached), in the chronological order

No. 1 is the polka episode from Richard Strauss's Eulenspiegel.
No. 2 is "I'm Going to Maxim's" from Lehar's Merry Widow.
No. 3 is, as Deryk said, the final movement from Bartok's Sonata for 2
Pianos + Percussion.
No. 4 is "The Interrupted Serenade" from Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra
(based, of course, on Shostakovich's march from the "Leningrad" Symphony,
no. 7 (the "missing work," in turn satirically based on the Lehar).
No. 5 is the work I haven't identified, but, like Deryk, I suspect
Shostakovich, perhaps the 9th Symphony (it's been a while since I've
heard that one)? The theme bears an obvious family resemblance to that
in the No. 3 excerpt.
