We are experiencing swarms (can I use that word?) of these beetles here in
northern Illinois due to a warm spell we're experiencing. They have covered MY
house as well as the bee houses. The hives are covered and look spotty orange
from a distance. I sat by the hives for an hour to make sure they were not
overwhelming the bees and getting into the hives.
They have also covered the fruiting crab apple branches, along with the box
elders. A neighboring farmer told me some bean fields have been spared thanks
to the imported beetle, but I am wary. Would love to hear opinions on this
subject. Chris
