Not to beat a dead, er, dog, but dog burials have a long history in old
world archaeology. There is a full dog cemetery with hundreds of them
carefully interred at Tell Ashkelon in Israel, dating to the Persian
Period (5th c BC), excavated 15 years ago by the Harvard Semitic Museum
project. Overlooks the beach, a nice place to end up if you're a dog, or
a human.
