Chris,

You really need to consult a professional conservation specialist. They are
chemists and know the best alternative procedures to follow. They probably will
need to examine a sample, then they can present you with alternatives and
cost estimates. I recommend you speak to the National Park Service in one of the
regional offices. Out here, the Tucson, Arizona office has a conservation
specialist who gives good advice.
