Assistant Professor position, University of Maryland, College Park,
Maryland:

University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for a tenure
track position in Anthropology at the Assistant Professor level starting
August 2005. Candidates in any of the traditional disciplinary subfields
who can convincingly place their work within our department's interest in
heritage studies, research and practice are encouraged to apply. Heritage
is one of three areas of concentration in our department. Our focus for
this area of concentration is on the management of cultural and/or
biological heritage resources and the identification and study of these
resources as they relate to our ability to understand relationships
between the past and the present.  For this new position we seek
individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
historical archaeology, heritage policy, ethnohistory, anthropological
genetics, environmental heritage, forensic anthropology, museum studies,
and health heritage. The department's other areas of concentration are
health and environment.  Candidates whose work can be seen as bridging
these areas with their primary interest in heritage studies are
encouraged.

The Anthropology Department at the University of Maryland currently offers
an undergraduate program with focus areas in archaeology, biological
anthropology, and cultural anthropology, as well as a unique and
nationally recognized professional program leading to the Master of
Applied Anthropology degree. We are developing a proposal for a Ph.D.
program. The department is also home to the Center for Heritage Resource
Studies.

Candidates for this position must have their Ph.D. in hand and should be
able to provide evidence of successful scholarly activity and effective
teaching. Candidates with a publications record, proven success in
sponsored research and grants development and/or experience in the
practice of anthropology outside of academia are encouraged to apply. To
