Carl,

James Deetz reviewed the conflicting thoughts on Eastern colonoware,
including a possible African American variant, when here in California. His thought
was that future archaeologists were likely to reject the term as too
over-arching. He recommended we look to different explanations for the Western material.
I agree and do not want to wade into the colono issue.
