R. Carlos Nakai to Perform Vision II by Judith Sainte Croix with the San
Juan Symphony, Arthur Post, Music Director - February 19 and 20 Performances
in Farmington, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado
Native American flute virtuoso R. Carlos Nakai and the San Juan Symphony,
Arthur Post, Music Director, will perform Vision II by American composer
Judith Sainte Croix in two concerts entitled "The Song of the Earth",
on February 19th - 7:30 PM at the Farmington Civic Center, 200 West
Arrington in Farmington, New Mexico and on Sunday February 20th - 3 PM
at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive in
Durango, Colorado.
Vision II was commissioned by Heliosphere and premiered in New York City.
This 11-minute work is one of a series of pieces the composer has dedicated
to the survival of the Native people of the Americas. Depicting Cherokee
history poetically, the piece unfolds in three sections. The beginning
represents a point before the arrival of Europeans, then moves into the
crisis of contact with Europeans and finally in the third section is
resolved with the rebirth of the Cherokee Nation in the West. Vision
II was recorded by Heliosphere for the Sonic Muse CD release Visions of
Light and Mystery.
Also on the concert are works by John Williams, Alan Hovhaness, R.
Carlos Nakai, Jose Pablo Moncayo, Tobias Picker and Aaron Copland.

Composer, pianist and vocalist Judith Sainte Croix has created opera,
chamber, orchestral and electronic music that has been commissioned and
performed across the United States and in Europe by such ensembles as
Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Netherlands
Radio Chamber Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Canton Symphony,
Minnesota Youth Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Composer's Concordance
and the Sonora Ensemble. She has been a recipient of grants from the
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the Jerome Foundation (twice),
the Mary Flagler Cary Trust Recording Program, the Heathcote Arts
Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts for the creation
of a multimedia work on the life of Louis Armstrong. Her debut Sonic

The San Juan Symphony is a regional orchestra uniting the Four Corners
area by nurturing the art of music through education and high quality

in Farmington, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado founded two separate
