Steven R. Gerber's Music To Be Performed Around the World - January
Concerts in Washington, D.C., New York City and St. Petersburg, Russia
Feature Orchestral and Chamber Works

Steven R. Gerber's music will be presented in several concerts around
the world in the month of January, including the World Premiere of his
Clarinet Concerto with Jon Manasse in Washington D.C. Specific pieces to
be performed, dates and locations include:

Saturday, January 8 at 8 PM - The National Philharmonic, Piotr Gajewski,
Music Director, will give the world premiere of Mr. Gerber's Concerto
for Clarinet and Orchestra with clarinet virtuoso Jon Manasse at the F.
Scott Fitzgerald auditorium, 603 Edmonston Drive in Rockville, Maryland,
just outside Washington, D.C.. For tickets, directions or other
information, visit the National Philharmonic online at
http://www.nationalphilharmonic.org/.

Mr. Gerber is a native of Washington, D.C. and has had numerous
performances and premieres with Maestro Gajewski and the National
Philharmonic. This current world premiere was written expressly for Jon
Manasse, who was formerly principal clarinet for the Metropolitan Opera
Orchestra in New York City. Mr. Gerber's two-movement concerto has an
approximate duration of twenty-minutes. The first movement consists of
a slow introduction, a fast atonal section, and a slow coda similar to
the introduction. The second movement has an introduction, a passacaglia
and fugue, and then a coda similar to that of the first movement.

This performance will mark the third World Premiere for Mr. Gerber by
the National Philharmonic. Past premieres by them include his Concerto
for Violin and Orchestra (which was premiered at the Kennedy Center),
and his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra.

Monday, January 17 at 8 PM - The Elektra Chamber Players will present
Gerber's Three Folksong Transformations for violin, cello, and piano at
Greenfield Hall of the Manhattan School of Music, 122nd & Broadway in
New York City. Performers will be violinist Kurt Nikkanen, cellist Maria
Kitsopoulos and pianist Maria Asteriadou. Other composers on the program
include Piazzolla, Gershwin and George Tsontakis. For ticket or other
information, visit the Elektra Chamber Players online at
http://www.msmnyc.edu/calendar/event.asp?eid=672.

Friday, January 21 at 3 PM - New York Philharmonic violinist Violinist
Anna Rabinova with guest artists Aerash Amini, cello and the composer
on piano will perform his Notturno and Three Folksong Transformations
at the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the New York Public Library of the
Performing Arts, 40 Lincoln Center Plaza in New York City. Other composers
on the program include Jose Luis Greco, Margaret Zelenaia and David
Winkler. For ticket or other information, visit the New York Public
Library of the Performing Arts online at

Sunday, January 30 - The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of St.
Petersburg, Russia will perform Gerber's Spirituals for String Orchestra
at that city's Beloselski-Belozerski Palace. Other composers on the
program include Bruch, Prokofiev and Bernstein. For more information,

Steven R. Gerber's music has gained international attention as a result
of two CD releases (on Chandos and KOCH International Classics) featuring
several of his major orchestral works, including the Symphony No. 1.
In 2005 KOCH will release a new CD of his solo and chamber works. The
recording will feature violinist Kurt Nikkanen (principal violin - New
York City Ballet), violinists Cho-Liang Lin and Cyrus Beroukhim, cellist
Brinton Smith (principal cello - Houston Symphony), and pianist Sara
Davis Buechner. The recording will contain nine works spanning the
period 1967-2001 and will represent a survey of Mr. Gerber's chamber
music to date.

Gerber has also achieved great success in the United States and in his
ten tours of the former Soviet Union, perhaps becoming the most often-played
living American composer in that area. Of the Symphony No. 1, Evening
Moscow wrote, "Gerber could serve as an example of American musical
professionalism ...he stands out with the highest of temperaments and
musical taste." Mr. Gerber has written for a number of fine soloists
including Yuri Bashmet for the viola concerto, Kurt Nikkanen for the
violin concerto and Carter Brey for the cello concerto. His work has
been performed by groups such as the Louisville Orchestra, Knoxville
Chamber Orchestra, the Fine Arts Quartet, the National Chamber Orchestra
and the Russian Philharmonic. Steven R. Gerber is the subject of an
Electronic Dialogue interview in Sequenza 21 web magazine. Read the
interview at http://www.sequenza21.com/gerber.html. Visit his website
