Need to heat it to get a thicker syrup. What I do is
boil the water, turn off the heat, and then add the
sugar while stirring vigorously. Don't have to worry
about caramelizing the syrup that way. Amount of
sugar you add depends on the purpose of feeding -
thinner syrup for brood stimulation, thicker syrup for
overwintering feed.
