Paid Historical Archaeology Internship

Assistant Field Laboratory Manager
Stanford University - Tennessee Hollow Watershed Archaeology Project
Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco, California

THE PROJECT:
The Tennessee Hollow Watershed Archaeology Project is a Stanford University
research project investigating colonization and culture contact in Spanish-
colonial California. The summer field research focuses on excavation of
residential areas of El Presidio de San Francisco, a Spanish-colonial
military settlement. More information about the project is available at
http://www.stanford.edu/group/presidio.

THE INTERNSHIP:
The assistant field laboratory manager is a core member of the summer field
research team, and together with the Field Lab Manager will direct the
processing and laboratory component of this excavation project. Specific
responsibilities include training and supervising student and volunteer
participants in wetscreening, flotation, and laboratory analysis methods,
and conducting artifact processing, identification, and cataloging. The
assistant field laboratory manager works with other members of the research
team to establish priorities for laboratory research and contributes to the
end-of-season report.

This is a great opportunity for an archaeologist with previous laboratory
experience in historical archaeology who would like to gain experience in a
supervisory and managerial position. As this is an ongoing academic
project, there are many opportunities for continued research involvement
beyond the field season.
