While I'm waiting to see how the SACD thing develops, or doesn't, it's
inevitable that we will acquire some anyway if this is the only format
in which some rarity is available and is unlikely to be recorded by
another company, eg the Harris 2nd/Gould 3rd on Albany, the final volume
of Ries symphonies on CPO.

Mention has been made of a price differential between CD and SACD for
the Rachmaninov piano concertos on Hyperion. I haven't kept tabs on
what different companies are doing in general, but I noticed that not
only is CPO not charging extra for SACD but a couple of recently-acquired
CDs with playing times between 45 and 50 minutes are at midprice. This
seems to me to be a very fair policy. It would be good if others would
follow their example.

Incidentally, is there any particular reason for the different jewel
case design used for SACDs?
