Glen,
I have a sense that all 'science,' (the search for knowledge or
understanding) is fundamental and basic, and it is the technology (the
practical application of this new knowledge) that might be considered
'cutting edge.'
I suppose there is the development of new technologies that allow for
better, more in depth probing of scientific questions. And there are
scientist which work on these new technologies, which might be better
classified as 'engineering,' so they can better pursue their lines
scientific inquiry.
So, I might quibble somewhat with the 'subject' of your posting, but not
so much with the body of it, which appears to make a similar distinction
between 'technology' and 'science.' Then again, I may just be splitting
hairs and of course, I could be wrong headed, which is usually the case.
Either way, we have to be careful how we make clear the distinction
between 'science' and 'technology' to visitors, if we can agree there is
one.
