Lyle, I asked Tom Batcha for his response to your inquiry about iron furnaces and the following is his response. Allen Vegotsky Lesley, J.P. "Iron Manufacturer's Guide to the Furnaces, Forges and Rolling Mills of the United States." New York: J. Wiley, 1859. This guide I would consider the best iron industry guide. It is not available via the internet but it can be found at several libraries and I have borrowed copies in the past via the Inter Library Loan program.. There are several books available now on google books. Google books is a source that I have just discovered in the last couple weeks and have some excellent reference books: History of the Manufacture of Iron in All Ages: And Particularly in the United States for Three Hundred Years from 1585 to 1885… By James Moore Swank http://books.google.com/books?vid=OCLC00585566&id=EQsKAAAAIAAJ http://books.google.com/books?vid=OCLC00585566&id=EQsKAAAAIAAJ&printsec=titl epage History of the Manufacture of Iron in All Ages: and particularly in the United States from Colonial Times to 1891... The Iron Manufacturers Guide is the best written format but is only current to 1859. The other guides all have smiliar age issues. I am not aware of any newer releases for these reference books. Hope this is useful, Tom Batcha [log in to unmask] > [Original Message] > From: Lyle E.
