Josh,

Try to think "advertising" and "product propaganda" when you think granite
and ironstone. Both British and American companies included the word ironstone
or granite on their maker's marks underneath the ceramic products to entice
consumers to buy their products. This does not necessarily correspond to chemical
or geological reality.
