Several years ago I hired an exhibit developer who
was deaf. He really knew his stuff on the subject
that we were developing. It was really an interesting
experience for the exhibit development team to learn
how to facilitate his work with the team.
Most of the time he was able to lip read pretty well
in one on one situations...occasionally we would
need to write something down because he couldn't
make it out.
We did bring in a sign language interpreter for group
meetings and all learned to talk one at a time, which
was a good lesson in politeness for all of us as well.
The only other accommodation was that we needed to
provide a phone TTY for his use so he could type
messages to folks over the phone who he wasn't
able to send e-mails to.
