Peter Eotvos' opera "Angels in America," based on Tony Kushner's
play, will premiere on Nov. 23 in Paris' Theatre du Chatelet. The
Transylvanian-born (1944) composer, with varied musical careers in Hungary
and Germany (piano, conducting, electronic music, teaching, etc.), has
written music-theater pieces, such as "Harakiri" and "Il maestro" in the
'70s, and the opera "The Three Sisters," based on the Chekhov play,
recorded by Kent Nagano and the Opera National de Lyon in 2000.

There will be only four performances of "Angels" in Paris, through Nov. 29.
Eotvos conducts; the cast includes
Barbara Hendricks (The Angel of America [Emma Thompson in the HBO film],
Julia Migenes (The Angel of Antarctica [Jeffrey Wright],
Roberta Alexandra (The Angel of Asia),
Omar Ibrahim (The Angel of Europe [Ben Shenkman],
Topi Lehtipuu (The Angel of Australia [Meryl Streep],
Daniel Belcher (Prior Walter [Justin Kirk].

What - no Roy Cohn?! A role that could be in the Nasty-Scary-Bass fach.
