After much debate, the honeybee, the "Angel of Agriculture," lost
out in a bid to be named the Ohio State Official Insect.
In June 1975, the Ohio legislature declared the common lady-bug,
officially named the Ladybird Beetle, the state insect. The
ladybug was chosen for its attractive markings and helpful eating
habits.
