The mark is from Henderson and Gaines, 'importers of
china and earthen ware' on Canal Street in New
Orleans. City directories list the firm from 1838 to
1866. The reference I have on hand is a Texas Parks
and Wildlife Dept. Research Notes for Historic Sites
and Materials #2 article from November of 1987. The
article is "Henderson & Gaines, New Orleans Ceramic
Importers" by Art Black and Cynthia Brandimarte.
