Peter Godaniburg makes a valid case for all the less-than obvious costs
of bringing recorded music to the public. But surely there are some
savings the make-it-available-on-line approach effects. Among them would
be the production and packaging of the physical CDs and their booklets;
the cost of shipping and receiving between the manufacturer and the
distributor and then from the distributor to the retailer. Each of these
processes requires warm bodies that have to be kept warm, not to mention
the admittedly crummy wages that the retail staff has to be paid.
I still think DG is trying to scalp us.
