In the 1980s, Pittsburgh's Buhl Planetarium and
Institute of Popular Science utilized white lab coats
as uniforms for both male and female staff members.
Previously, blazers had been used as uniforms for the
male staff members.

These uniforms were worn by members of the Floor Staff
[Department of Visitor Services and Volunteers] and
also by some members of the Program Department [who
delivered presentations to the public].

The uniforms were provided by Buhl Planetarium. There
was no cost to staff members.

A certain supply of lab coats [and, earlier, blazers]
were kept at Buhl Planetarium. The uniforms would then
be used by the staff members on duty. In the case of
the lab coats, some full-time staff members did get
their own lab coat, which they kept in their own
locker.

For those that utilize staff uniforms,

1. Which departments/teams wear uniforms?
2. What are those uniforms, and do you have
different uniforms for
different departments?
3. Do you provide the uniform or are staff
required to purchase
them?
4. How many uniforms do you provide for each
person?

Thank you.
