I haven't read that article, but I do agree that drones are often overlooked
and that they are under a lot of pressure, since their vigour is affected by
both varroa, and by the 'cures' -- fluvalinate and coumaphos.

The series of articles I refer to by Larry Conner have been in Bee Culture
over the last nine months. My favorite is the first article:

May 2003 (vol.131 no. 5) "The Drone"

June 2003 (vol.131 no.6) "Drones in Action"

July 2003 (vol.131 no.7) "How Many Drones"

Nov.2003 (vol. 131 no. 11) "How Many Drone Colonies do you Need?"

Dec. 2003 (vol. 131 no. 12) "Drone Feeding and Holding Colonies"

Jan. 2003 (vol.131 no.1) Stimulating Drone Development During Winter in
Florida"

Dig around under the stack of papers in your office and find your copies of
Bee Culture and read those articles Allen! Time well spent!

Bob
