The Archaeology Department at George Washington's Fredericksburg
Foundation is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant
Field Supervisor. The successful applicant will participate in the
fourth year of an intensive, large-scale, excavation at George
Washington's Ferry Farm, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A
National Historic Landmark, Ferry Farm is the plantation home where
George Washington grew to manhood. The emphasis of the archaeological
research is the colonial era. The site also contains prehistoric, Civil
War, and twentieth-century components that are vital to the site's
broader interpretation.
The Assistant Field Supervisor position offers the opportunity for an
individual to gain supervisory experience and an understanding of the
nuances of the open-area excavation technique. Qualified applicants
should have several seasons of archaeological field experience on
historic period sites. Preference will be given to those who have prior
experience on colonial era sites and on large-scale excavations,
optimally in the Mid-Atlantic region. A minimum of a B.A. degree is
required.
The term of employment is from May 2 to September 30, 2005. The work
schedule will consist of 40 hours a week, which may include working
Saturdays during July, August, and September. The position will pay
$12.00 an hour. Benefits, housing, meals, and per diem are NOT
included.
The application deadline is March 14, 2005. Those interested should
