EMI has released a program of Stokowski conducting an unnamed orchestra
(probably a New York pick-up ensemble) some of his Bach transcriptions
in its new Legends series. The hook is that you get a free DVD of
Stokowski conducting the LSO in Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a
Faun. Now, there's another EMI CD of the same program (and same conductor
and orchestra) for about half the price as well as a multi-CD set on
Pearl of the conductor and his Philadelphians doing Stokowski's
transcriptions.

Does anybody know whether the DVD makes the newer EMI release worth
getting? How bad is the sound on the Pearl? Normally, I wouldn't ask
the latter question, but one of the joys of a Stokowski recording (and
the transcriptions) is the fabulous sonority.
