>I would not think any commercial store would list out of print recordings.
I think most online stores (H&B Direct, MyMusic.com, etc.) DO list oop/nla
items because it takes time and effort to remove them from their databases.
One often ends up waiting for months after ordering something, either
because they were oop all along, or because they became unavailable in
the interim. This removal may be done periodically, but some sites even
warn about the nla status of listed items -- I suspect to save themselves
the trouble of re-entering the data when they become available again.
I'm waiting for a CD with Toch's PC right now. For the reason I mentioned,
no one knows for certain if it's available: either the distributor's
database needs updating, or it may indeed reflect what's in their
warehouse. Finding out can take "ten plus days," as I was just told
...that is, weeks.
To my knowledge, only Bis and HNH (Naxos/Marco Polo) claim they _never_
let things go out of print entirely. I suspect that all successful
labels will find a way to make such a claim down the road.
