I didn't mean to imply that I believe people are tolerant just because
they (self) describe as such.

I agree it's difficult, if not impossible - I'm just glad no one has
pointed out something I've missed in the literature. The example of
(in)tolerance of slavery is great (the West India Company was _very_
tolerant of slavery!)
