That wasn't a lecture, that was a rant about imprecise use of
terminology. You're a good example of archaeologically precise use of
terminology in your arguments about the pottery in the area of
discussion. I knew absolutely nothing about it before, not having been
much west of the Mississippi, but now not only have a bit more than a
concept level grasp and have the references to take it farther should I
wish. That precision in explanation as it should be. But for those who
use imprecise terms, I really wonder how much grasp is there if a 10th
means 90%.

Sounds like a state sponsored top down system in government and
religion designed to further the aims of the nation and the state
religion while offering cheap labor. Of course with the side product of
eliminating threats to the system. If slave numbers on plantations from
the east coast can be translated, then the numbers should translate to
between drastically reduce (50%) to exterminate (90%). That work for
you?
