Arch-metals list has a discussion on-going about the exports of pig
iron to Britain and the re-export of iron to the colonies that appears
to show a rough correlation over time with the population. Has anyone
got references for the actual recipe for how much iron is required for
the "average" house and in what proportions (nails, hinges, straps,
etc.) in the 17th-19th centuries?
Thanks in advance,
Lyle Browning
