Fellow researchers, historians and genealogists,
We have recently added the 1873 Atlas of the State of Michigan to our growing collection of Midwestern digital historic atlases. This abridged atlas consists of 124 pages of statistical data, a gazetteer of places, railroad stations, post offices, landings, lakes, rivers, islands, cities, towns and villages, and maps of all Michigan counties.
The county maps in this Atlas are useful for identifying 1873 railroads and railroad stations, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, post offices and early Michigan place names. A number of thematic maps depicting political boundaries of this period are also included. There are also two detailed city maps in the Atlas: Grand Rapids and Detroit.
Bonus maps are included for railroad and early transportation buffs: (6) high resolution scanned images of Michigan railways dating from 1848-1886 included on each CD.
This is an excellent 1873 time capsule with a wealth of information useful to anyone interested in studying this period of Michigan's history.
