You may be interested to know, that not too long ago a couple of years that
the "sword of surrender" a white samurai sword presented by the Emperor of
Nippon to the United States was just recently returned to the museum at the
Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy on the north shore of Long Island, NY,
across the water from Fort Schuyler, NY where the State of New York has its
Maritime College.
It had been stolen in the 1970's and was thought to have been lost forever.
It had been taken apparently by a veteran (there is a large P2 troop carrier
brass propeller out in front of the museum, my grandfather served on a big
P2 which were cut apart and lengthened like the Mount Washington on Lake
Winnepeasauki, NH) disgruntled at the treatment of veterans in the U.S.,
which he relinquished on his death-bed from cancer according to the note
left with it on the entrance to the museum back in 2000 or so.
