It alters the quality of the vowel, not the accent on the vowel.  O' o'
(accent aigu, in French, but we can't show it in ASCII here) simply
denotes a long o, as in the English word 'show.'

Perhaps our resident Hungarian, Janos Gereben, can amplify or correct
what I've said.
