I'm not an expert either...but I do know that...use of NIPPON as country of
origin was required (by U.S.) to be changed to JAPAN by 1921, altho MADE IN
JAPAN was already in use by some companies prior to 1915 as indicated by
examples of such marked ware found in pre-1915 deposits from: a store
burned in 1915 in an Asian community of Walnut Grove, CA (Costello and
Maniery 1988), from Chinatown in Riverside, CA (Mueller 1987), and found at
the Home Ave. dump in San Diego (Carrico 1997)....and according to Asian
ceramics specialist Lee Bibb. So it seems this date needs to be revised.
