"Made in Japan" was a subject on HISTARCH awhile ago, I think.  In California
we've had MADE IN JAPAN on ceramics from a definite 1915 fire deposit.  Also
reported from a firmly dated 1907 well.  Irene Stitt gives a 1921 date but
that seems too late, based on the archaeology deposits.
