But if you are feeling adventurous, a laptop computer makes a wonderful
high quality portable sound recorder and editor.  For not too much an
investment, you could record your own sounds, convert them to MP3s, and
use a low cost Mp3 player as a reliable no-moving-parts playback device.
This assumes you have access to a bog.
