Yes 'hodie' is Latin for today, but according to my Concise Oxford, modern
comes ultimately from the Latin 'modo', meaning 'just now'.
Just to evade Dave's cutting shears, I'll point out that I know of a
piece called "Hodie" (Vaughan Williams) but nothing called "Modo"...:-)
