Actually one of the best Proms concert was Abbado and the Gustav Mahler
Youth Orchestra. If you want young people to get involved in classical
music catch them really young 5 or 6. I remember at school when I was
about 6 or 7 there was a radio programme called music & movement that used
classical music though I was too young to recognise as such. Forward to
when I was 18 and I put on Stravinsky's Petrushka and there suddenly was
the music I heard when rushing about the school hall listening to music &
movement on the radio all those years ago.
