The School of World Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University is sponsoring a conference April 8-10, 2005 under the theme of Crossing Boundaries: Ideas, Communities, Cultures. This conference will broadly examine the ways in which parameters are established, supported, challenged, and crossed on individual, community, and global levels. Conference papers might explore ways in which social, personal, religious, and political borders are transcended. Presented papers are invited for submission to an edited volume.
I am organizing a panel looking at the ways in which archaeologists explore cultural boundaries and the social borders of religion, politics, and econimcs. I am interested as well in the ways in which such boundaries influence and shape archaeological interpretation in the present. My proposed paper will explore the disciplinary and hierarchical boundaries of archaeological practice and their influence on analytic results. If you are interested in participating in this panel or if you are interested in participating in the conference in another way, please contact me at [log in to unmask]
