I recommend the Malcolm Shuman mysteries.  His detective is a historical
archaeologist.  So far, he has written:

* The Meriwether Murder
* Assassin's Blood
* Past Dying
* The Last Mayan
* Burial Ground

All of them deal with the realistic, day-to-day activities of a small CRM group.
