Title: Conference Grants for Participation in Overseas Conferences
Sponsor: Royal Society - United Kingdom
Eligibility: Only scientists based in the United Kingdom are eligible.
Applicants must be British subjects or European Commission nationals working
in the United Kingdom in postdoctoral appointments, or foreign nationals who
hold an established post in a U.K. university or have worked in one for at
least three years at postdoctoral level. Grants are not made to persons in
receipt of substantial stipends overseas (as when holding an appointment
during sabbatical leave).
Grants are made only to applicants of at least Ph.D. status, that is, either
having been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent research degree or having
completed at least one year of research at postdoctoral level or holding the
position of lecturer or equivalent in an institution of higher education.
Grants are made only to applicants who are presenting their own paper or
poster at a meeting or chairing a session.
For an applicant who is not a Fellow of the Royal Society, the last section
of the application should be completed by a person of high standing in the
applicant's field well acquainted with the scientific work of the applicant.
This person, who should preferably be a Fellow of the Society, should then
forward the application directly to the Royal Society.
Grants are not made to holders of the Royal Society's University Research
Fellowships. Grants are not given to applicants who are civil servants or
employees of the research councils, the National Health Service, state-aided
research establishments and other governmental bodies, profit-making
companies set up by universities, and other industrial or commercial bodies.

Abstract: The Conference Grants for Participation in Overseas Conferences
scheme provides grants to U.K.-based scientists for visits overseas where
participation at a conference is the main purpose and the conference is on
any scientific or technological discipline within the remit of the Royal
Society, i.e., the natural sciences, including mathematics, engineering
science, agricultural and medical research, the scientific aspects of
archaeology, geography, experimental psychology, and the history of science.
