(Long-time listeners of WQXR--the classical music radio station owned
by the New York Times and heard in the vicinity of New York City--should
be familiar with the name Robert or Bob Sherman. In addition to all his
broadcasting work, Sherman is the son of pianist Nadia Reisenberg.)
The Museum of Television & Radio will salute WQXR producer and
host Bob Sherman (on the occasion of his fiftieth anniversary
in broadcasting) on Thursday, November 30 at 6 p.m.
Former WQXR colleague George Jellinek will interview Bob about
his life and career. This will be followed by "live re-creations"
of two of Bob's signature programs, The Listening Room and Woody's
Children (currently heard Sunday afternoons at 4 on WFUV) with
performances by folksinger Christine Lavin and pianist Joseph
Kalichstein. In addition, clips from Bob's classic interviews
with Benny Goodman, Victor Borge, Alexander Kipnis, Anna Russell,
Alfred Hitchcock, and others will be played.
For complimentary tickets (a limited amount are available), call
(212) 621-6886.
All the best,
