In my view it is the perfect wood, I have 20 year old hive bodies that have
not rotted or warped, this is without any timber treatment! also corner
damage is not a problem if you use a hive tool with care, it is a problem if
you skimp and use old screwdrivers or chisels.
The other plus point is weight, red cedar is much lighter than exterior
quality plywood.
(Admittedly this is not such a consideration with your hive design.)
