Phil asked about repair and painting.

It REALLY REALLY irritates me that the dealers are not informing beekeepers
of how important maintenance is to the polystyrene equipment!  More
important than for wood!

Paint with any good latex.  Three coats is best, but two are required.  If
using the feeders, which are excellent, paint the inside as well as the
outside.  For brood and supers, just the outside is good enough.

Repair with any good resin glue, before painting if possible.  The best
repair is to use both the resin glue and the gummy strips that are sold to
repair wallboard.  Then paint.  Use the strips on both the inside and the
outside of the piece being repaired.  The glues are non-toxic to bees.
