The Naxos recording of the completed 4 movt Bruckner 9 is now on their
website. It is very difficult to tell listening over the internet but
it is a fairly firey performance with naturally placed brass and timpani.
The accoustic does seem a too dry though.
Most importantly the completed finale is magnificent. Beautifully shaped
towards a glorious extended coda. Bruckner struggled so hard to finish
this wonderful work and it is good to know that, in a sense, 'he made
it'. There is a booklet note, again on the site, where the author claimms
less reconstruction was made than we might suspect.
The only caveat to me buying this is knowing that the VPO/Harnoncourt
version will be coming out soon. It will all depend on the performace
and pricing policy as to whihc I will buy. Min you the Harnoncourt/BPO
B8 was a damp squib ...
Please listent to the Naxos and tell us what you think.
