Lawrence Dillon's String Quartet No.  2 to Receive World Premiere by
Daedalus Quartet on November 20 - Reynolda House Museum of American Art,
Winston-Salem, North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM - On Thursday, November 20th at 8 PM, the Daedalus String
Quartet will present the World Premiere of Lawrence Dillon's "String
Quartet No.  2" at Reynolda House Museum of American Art, 2250 Reynolda
Road in Winston-Salem, NC.

The performance will be the first of four the Daedalus Quartet will
give in North Carolina, as part of the their 03-04 tour.  Dillon's second
string quartet, part of a cycle of six quartets in progress, is comprised
of six fugues, each exploring flight from a different perspective.  For

The Daedalus String Quartet was Grand Prize Winner of the 2001 Banff
International String Quartet competition, and was a finalist in the 2003
Naumberg Competition.  The quartet performs nearly 50 concerts during
the 2003-2004 season, including recitals in New York, Washington, Los
Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, Providence, Philadelphia, and the Republic
of Panama.  They also serve as the Ernst Stiefel Quartet in Residence

Dean of the North Carolina School of the Arts, Lawrence Dillon was awarded
a special commendation by the 2003 Masterprize panel in London, and was
chosen as contemporary competition composer for the 2002 Vakhtang Jordania
International Conducting Competition in Kharkov, Ukraine.  His educational
piece "Snegglish Dances" was commissioned and premiered by the Louisville
Orchestra, which subsequently won the 2001 Leonard Bernstein Award for
Educational Programming from ASCAP and the American Symphony Orchestra
