I am at 59 degrees N in Fort Nelson. (Mile 300 on the Alaska Highway). I
hived my first two packages of bees ever on Monday. It has proceeded to
snow all week with temperatures between -5 and 5 degrees Celsius (27- 37
Fahrenheit?) all week. I am a little bit discouraged.
Hopefully my bees survive the week and it warms up soon. They were
installed in brand new hives with hive top feeders and 1:1 sugar syrup. I
have not been out to check them since Monday as they are quite a ways out
of town at a friends farm. I figure that it is best not to disturb them
while it is this cold. I plan on removing the queen cages on Saturday.
The price of doing business this far north and in the interior I guess.
